Argentina will now join Croatia who beat Iceland 2-1 in the round of 16.

Croatia will face Denmark who finished second in Group C whilst Argentina will meet with France.

Argentina eventually opened the scoring gate via Messi at 14 minutes into the game, he controlled a long pass given by Ever Banega before shooting it past Francis Uzoho and into the net.

In the 26th minute, a big save was made by Uzoho as he quickly came off his line to prevent Gonzalo Higuian from doubling Argentina’s lead following a defense splitting pass from Messi.

Messi almost made it 2-0 from a free-kick close to the box at 34 minutes but his effort got the slightest fingertip touch from Uzoho and came off the post.
