The Governor of Rivers state, Governor Nyesom Wike says he is ready to die if it demands his life, to make sure that the Peoples Democratic Party PDP wins the 2019 general elections.
Nyesom Wike made this statement in an interview in a monthly magazine titled ‘the interview.’
Governor Wike made mention of the former president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan and why he lost the 2015 general elections because he was being surrounded with fake and insincere people especially his ministers.
The Governor said that the Rivers State fought so hard to ensure that PDP won in the 2015 general elections and he said that 2019 would not be any different.
The whole thing boils down to sincerity and commitment and sincerity. We said if things would not happen, all of us would go down with it. That was the driving spirit for us, and that is what we are going to repeat in 2019.
If the Federal Government is going to kill all of us, so be it. Because we know what they have planned and their strategies and so when it is time, we will face the APC squarely in this state. Just watch.
The governor went on to laud the former president Goodluck Jonathan as a perfect gentleman who endured many things. He also believed that every leader has the way he does his things according to Gods strength and wisdom they have.
He gave an instance of when the former president Goodluck Jonathan went to some part of the Northern states to campaign, and they stoned him, and he did nothing to them.
He went on to say that if he were to be the one that he will not condone such and it would have been a different case altogether.
Wike said God gave every leader his strength and way of doing things. You see, I will not accept that. Let the heavens fall. If Nigeria was going to end on that day, let it end. I will not take what he took. That is why I respect the man a lot. I will not take that.
If Nigeria will come down that day, let it come down. I mean, what is it? He was President and you were throwing stones at him? No single respect for that office? And you tell me to accept it? No, I will clamp down on you.
The Governor went on to say that those from the north who persecuted and stoned the Jonathan during his campaign were neither arrested nor persecuted, it shows that his campaign was bein stopped and sabotaged.
He wondered why the states ruled by PDP would allow such to happen.
Wike also said that he is in support of what the former minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe on how he wanted to stop Prof. Attahiro Jega the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commision INEC from announcing the 2015 presidential election results at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commision.
Nyesom Wike justified Orubebe’s actions because he said that the elections were rigged.
When asked if he is in support of Orubebe actions, he said,
I did. Of course, why not? You saw clear rigging. I don’t like a system where you see something is going wrong and you keep quiet.
Governor Nyesom Wike said that his committee would do everything to bring in as many as they can, powerful politicians into the party. The Governor is currently heading the PDP reconciliation committee.
He went on to say that his committee can go as far as wooing the former governor of Kano state Rabiu Kwankwaso and the former governor of Lagos State Asiwanu Bola Tinubu.
What is the crime in wooing people? Who told you that we would not woo people like Tinubu and Kwankwaso? You see, whether they will come or not is immaterial. Those that the APC wooed, did they not join the APC?
Who told you that we would not go and woo prominent APC governors? That does not mean that they will come. All the APC leaders at the National Assembly, were they not PDP people? What is all this trouble about wooing and not wooing?
He also talked about the former governor of Borno state, Ali Modu Sherriff, whom he helped to emerge as the PDP chairman though it nearly made the Peoples Democratic Party to collapse entirely and he said he doesn’t regret his actions for helping him saying that he is not a coward.
He goes on to say that he didn’t know at that time that the Sherriff was ‘an agent of darkness.’
Why should I regret? I am not a coward. I am not one of those that takes decisions and goes back to say I am not part of that decision
