The thiosulfonates show antimicrobial properties that allow the effectiveness of onion in treating infections included by E.coli, Salmonella, and Bacillus subtilis. However, it is also a natural relief for inflammation of nerves or “vertigo” and skin problems like vitiligo, warts and freckles. It is also a little bit laxative; it is beneficial for hair, eyes and nails, it helps to kill tapeworm and other parasites in the intestine and increases the production of urine. Onion is believed to reduce bronchial spasms; thus reducing allergy-induced bronchial constriction in asthma patients especially old ones.
As far as onion’s nutritional value is concerned, it contains lots of minerals and vitamins. Onion is an excellent source of vitamin A, B, and C. The minerals include calcium, phosphorus and potassium. Onion also contains protein.
