A World cup without Messi is edging close to reality. The Barcelona star and his team mates are at risk of dropping out of the world cup.
It was an unfortunate day for Argentina, as they failed to find the net against Peru on Friday. Barcelona star Lionel Messi could only hit the post bar in the second half and watch in frustration as his team-mates failed to convert lots of chances he created.
The result left Argentina side in sixth place. The first four standing teams qualify automatically, with the fifth-placed team heading to a playoff against the New Zealand in November 2017.
Its only two points separating third-placed Chile and seventh-placed Paraguay, but the standings could change depending on Tuesday result.
Argentina’s final qualifier match against Ecuador is a challenging one as Argentina has a poor record against the Ecuadoran team, losing two out of three of their last World Cup qualifiers in Ecuador capital and drawing the other one. The Argentines’ last win in Quito was in 2001 world cup qualifier. However, the coach hopes the team will be victorious on Tuesday.
